Candles soothed her, and she hoped they'd soothe him, too. But­terflies fluttered relentlessly inside her stomach. Tonight, she'd flip the switch and tum this encounter into something else besides sex, because that's not what she needed. It was the tenderness she craved. Someone who felt nice on the tips of her fingers. Who kissed her slowly and nibbled on her, savoring her like she was a gourmet dessert instead of gulping her down like fast food.

To­night, she'd be the one to use him. He'd be the instrument, not her. She'd take from him what she needed and when she was fin­ished, she'd politely dismiss him. No harm done. No hurt feelings, false senses of commitment, or feigned devotion. Things like that weren't necessary between two consenting adults like them. They knew better.

She turned off the lights. John watched her slowly slip out of her robe. Connie stood naked before him, stepping back slightly when he instinctively reached out to pull her closer to him.

"You've got to let me do this," she said softly.

He leaned back on the bed, smiled, then nodded his head in approval. "Yes, ma'am."
